Paradise Park in McAllen, Texas leads all other 55+ Winter Texan parks in the valley for outside
activities because of its location. Located in the lower Rio Grande Valley, McAllen is noted for its
subtropical climate, quick access to South Padre Island and Progreso, Tamalaupis Mexico. Within
McAllen proper, there are hundreds of shops and restaurants, with major shopping centers within
minutes of Paradise Park. Most outside activities are within 10-20 minutes driving time in and
around McAllen. Other wonderful attractions are also within close driving range.
Progreso, Tamalaupis, Mexico is only 24 miles from
Paradise Park. The border city of Progreso is known for
its shopping, dentistry, and pharmacies. People are
known to travel hundreds of miles for dental work and
purchasing of medication in Progreso. Passports are
needed to return to the United States after visiting
Progreso.
There are also several tours that go deeper into
Mexico by bus or train. Local travel agencies can assist
you.

Area attractions include natural and man made structures. Beginning at South Padre
Island and going west many unique visiting experiences can be found. There are
federal wildlife refuges and state parks. The refuges and parks make up the World
Migratory Bird Center. There are chartered gulf fishing trip available and gulf cruises to
view dolphins and other aquatic life. A sea turtle rescue center is located on South
Padre Island. Falcon dam lake offers the opportunity for boating and fishing. The
nearby cities of San Antonio, Laredo, and Corpus Christi are day trip destinations.
